The number of companies providing algorithms built using AI has exploded in recent years. AI has accelerated progress in the field of biometric algorithm development, but has also created new challenges, most notably bias towards particular demographic groups, resulting in false matches and exclusion from access to services.
A ranking based on accuracy can no longer be the only criterion used to evaluate a solution; other factors need to be taken into account to assess whether an algorithm is not just high-performing, but also fair and robust.
